The Goldthwaite FFA Agricultural Mechanics team won first place at the 2009 San Angelo Stock Show and Rodeo Wednesday, February 25.
The students showed a spray trailer they built in their agricultural mechanics classes. The trailer was complete with a one thousand gallon water tank, water pump, fire hose and fan spray nozzles. The trailer is equipped for dust or fire control and was plumbed for multiple uses. It will be used by Goldthwaite’s FFA Rodeo Association for grounds preparation.
Students who participated in the exhibition of this project were Ryan Hall, Hunter Melton, Bryce Barnett, Brayden Tiemann and Charlee Griffin.
Another team of GFFA Agricultural Mechanics members showed a twelve-foot utility trailer they built in their agricultural mechanics classes.
The utility trailer was fabricated for the GISD grounds department. It was designed for to hold two large riding mowers and other grounds tools and has two custom holders for a gas can and drinking water container.
Students who exhibited the utility trailer were Andrew Craig, Frank Serna, Tim Early, Anna Santellano, Joe Ballencia and Adam Darnell.
The trailers were judged on seven different areas including workmanship, design and materials, practicality, degree of difficulty, finish, plans and bill of material and students’ knowledge of the project. Judges evaluated the project and paperwork and questioned the students about various aspects of construction of the project.
Traveling with the students were Clark Campbell, GFFA advisor and agricultural science teacher at Goldthwaite High School and Molly Lesley, agricultural science student teacher at GHS.
