3rd Annual Jack Edington Memorial
Goldthwaite FFA presented the third annual Jack Edington Memorial Scholarship Team Roping on November the 7th. Team ropers from the surrounding area competed for prize money that totaled over $2500. FFA members were on hand to help the event run smoothly. The work stations manned by FFA members were loading the roping chute, taking off ropes, and concession stand.
Roping started at about 11:00 in the morning at the T.A. Head arena on Saturday. There was a good turn out, and after all were entered and the draw was made, there were 84 teams total. Ropers had to receive a qualified time on two runs to contend for the purse in the short round. Eighteen teams qualified to return to the short round and the top four times on three total runs were paid prize money. Teaming up to win the event were Ruben Gonzales and Brandon Smith. The buckles were presented in front of the roping chute by Mrs. Sharon Edington, Kirk, Jana, Whitney and Will Edington and David and Marty Larner after the roping was completed.
In addition to the roping action, GFFA members competed for a cash prize in the egg toss held after the roping. FFA members Brandon Hoyer and Taylor Stephens won the title of 2nd annual egg toss champions. Funds generated from this event will be awarded as scholarship money to deserving senior FFA members. The Jack Edington Memorial Scholarship Team Roping will be held annually to fund the scholarship. Goldthwaite FFA members would like thank all individuals who donated their time, talents and equipment to help make this event as successful as it was.
